Sentier des gardes-gardee par des arbres….

I’d kinda thought that all the damage from Aprils fohen storm had been chainsawed out the way so, with a couple hours before work this morning, decided I’d have a quick blast down the Sentier des Gardes track from Brevent.

I’d not been down there this summer, and hadn’t spoken to anyone else who has, but wasn’t expecting any problems….

Best not to hit it flat out

…..It’s not been cleared since the storm, there’s trees across the track throughout which really kills the flow, and some sections have got very interesting if you out-brake yourself into them! Plenty of other tracks to go at at least.

went down there at the beginning of the season, real nightmare, and tried a few weeks ago, still no luck. BEST pushing further across to the traversing track that joins from below the belachet refuge. lovely lovely descent that has even seen a little bit of trail maintenance in recent weeks (also great switchback training when done from the top of brevent down past the refuge)

UPDATE: just walked up to Planpraz via this route to see how its going. There has been a lot cut down. There is now only one tree down near the top, about 5 switchbacks down or so. Then at about 1500m-1400m there are several sections, including the root in the photo that remain. But not enough to make it not worthy of riding. Its fresh looking and loamy. I’m going to try it tomorrow as I love the tight switchbacks at the top followed by the lower flow!

Cheers Oliver, great news that. Just down from a few laps of Brevent. Not sure which way you walked up to Planpraz, but the parapont take-off singletrack entry is still a bit snowy, the double-track path from under the gondola is fine and isn’t affected by the demolition work (though there is still a tape across it) so it’s probably the best start to the trails just now. Trails in the forest to riders left of the main couloir are riding really nice and 99% clear of snow and ice. Enjoy tomorrow!
